Her story

From the classroom to the head's office, and then to the whole system

Evelyn Serwaah Sarpong began her career as an instructor, teaching Home Economics, Clothing and Textiles, and Food and Nutrition. Eighteen years in front of students gave her something that no management course can teach: a working understanding of what actually helps a young person stay in school and finish well.

That grounding shaped everything that followed. As Headmistress and School Principal, she took on the running of entire institutions, managing teams of teachers and support staff, school budgets, admissions, and disciplinary systems. Her most significant institutional work was leading the transformation of Saint Paul's Girls Vocational Institute into Saint Paul's Catholic Senior High School, a change that widened access and raised academic standing for the students who came after.

Alongside her school leadership, Evelyn served as Director of the Girls Taking Action (GTA) Ghana Chapter, where she designed and ran community programmes for underprivileged girls and rural families. She has also held national office as Treasurer and Vice President of major Ghanaian education associations, giving her a view of policy and practice well beyond any single school compound.

Today she works as an independent consultant, helping founders, NGOs, church education units, and district offices set up new schools, fix struggling ones, and build programmes that keep girls in the classroom.

How she works

Vision, discipline, empathy, and strategic execution

Systems over quick fixes

She builds structures a school can still run five years after the consultant has gone: policies, budgets, governance, and clear lines of accountability.

Girls at the centre

Programme design starts with the learners most likely to drop out, and works backwards to the conditions that keep them enrolled and finishing.

Practitioner's judgement

Every recommendation comes from someone who has taught the lessons, managed the staff, balanced the budget, and handled the discipline cases herself.

Standards that hold up

Improvement plans are aligned to Ghana Education Service requirements, so compliance and quality move together rather than against each other.
